LOCAL CHIMNEY CARE
Our work in Ventura
When water appears near a Ventura fireplace, tell us when you saw it and what earlier roof or chimney work covered. We want to separate a new finding from a repair that was already tried. Ventura is coastal, and salt air can rust steel caps faster. The City's Apply for Permits page also links the residential permit checklist, forms and Permit Services for questions about a proposed change.
For new customers, the chimney inspection and leak check are free. We check the interior firebox, damper and smoke chamber, plus the accessible crown, cap and flashing outside. You receive a written photo report the same day, with any visibility limits stated. If a repair or cleaning is needed, you get the scope and price in writing before work begins. New customers also receive $99 off a chimney cap.
If you have a wood-burning fireplace, we also look at the visible spark arrestor screen. Embers can escape a damaged screen. For applicable masonry chimneys, California's spark-arrestor guidance sets openings between 3/8 and 1/2 inch. Ventura Fire Prevention publishes the City's wildfire resources. Our fire-season chimney guide explains this check without replacing the Fire Department's current advice.

CHIMNEY TO HEARTH
Chimney services for Ventura
Chimney Leak Repair & Waterproofing
Start with the water history and past repair documents so the next assessment can investigate an unresolved route rather than repeat a guess.
Chimney Inspection
Use an inspection to clarify visible condition, available access, and what further evidence is needed before selecting a repair.
Chimney Repair
Discuss a repair proposal in terms of its identified component and purpose, including what will remain outside the agreed work.
A PLAN FOR YOUR PROPERTY
Turn the leak history into usable evidence
Write down where water becomes visible, when you first noticed it, and whether the mark dries between episodes. Include dated room photographs taken from the same position when possible. If someone has already worked on the roof, flashing, crown, or masonry, collect that written scope. The goal is to understand what was actually addressed rather than repeating a repair name from memory.
Separate a past conclusion from a current observation. A report saying that a cap was replaced does not tell an assessor whether the roof junction or surrounding masonry was examined. Ask the next recommendation to identify the suspected route, the evidence supporting it, and any areas that remain inaccessible. Any additional testing should be explained and agreed, not treated as an automatic part of a basic visit.
Prepare a Ventura contact and access plan
Send the street address and ZIP code, the fireplace room, fuel type if known, and the name of the owner or authorized decision-maker. Include access constraints such as an occupied rental, shared entry, or another contractor working on the property. If a manager will attend, clarify whether they can approve further investigation or only provide access.
Confirm the appointment directly with Tier1 and ask what information is needed before it can be arranged. State any deadline you are working toward without assuming that it establishes availability. Agree who will receive the findings and how a revised scope would be approved. Address-specific confirmation makes the request practical without implying a separate Ventura office or reserved service slot.
Connect findings to a written repair scope
Ventura's official Apply for Permits page links Permit Services, Ventura OPS, forms, and a residential permit checklist. Once a proposal exists, use those resources to ask about the actual work and property. A chimney assessment and a municipal construction inspection serve different purposes; clarify each required step with the relevant party.
When comparing proposals, look for named components, documented findings, retained materials, and exclusions. Ask how roof-related work will be coordinated and what evidence of completion you will receive. Keep the final scope beside earlier reports so later maintenance can distinguish a completed correction from a recommendation that was never authorized.
